Hello all! My name is Ashley. I am fairly certain that I have been heading towards librarianship since the day I was born. I treated my local libraries with the same reverence that people give to churches. I have always kept my books organized (alphabetical by author’s last name) and I hold fictional characters in higher esteem than I do most people.
I went to university with the plans of becoming a forensic scientist. I still wanted to be a librarian, but I felt as though I should aim for a career that, in my mind, would make me more money. Of course, it is pretty telling that the main reason I wanted to go into forensic science was because of all of the books I read on the topic…
After failing rather miserably in the science field, I did some soul-searching and returned to what I love the most – books. I got my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature in 2010. I was still thinking about being a librarian, but at the time grad school was an expensive decision to make when I was not 100% certain that it was my path in life.
I began applying for jobs shortly after graduation with my undergraduate degree. After many months of pulling my hair out and crying over the state of my employment (or lack thereof), I finally got hired as a Library Assistant in a public library. It was love at first sight. I knew immediately that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Within four months of starting my job, I had applied to and been accepted into a Masters of Library and Information Science program. As of now, I am due to graduate in the summer of 2014.
I hope to use this blog to talk about the things I love the most – mainly books and libraries. I welcome anyone to read, comment, follow, or share my blog. I am also hoping to find similar blogs that I can read and enjoy.
